Under normal circumstances, we have a strict no under 12 policy due to our location. Head over Hills can be booked in its entirety by a group as an exclusive villa. In this scenario, children under 12 can also be accommodated.

Special dinners can be organised and Martin, our owner, would love to give you a taste of some of our delicious wines. Wine and food pairings can be organised for groups. Our new wine tasting room is fully operational and we are so excited!

The owner of Head over Hills has a long history in South Africa, despite originally coming from Sweden. Martin used to be a professional golfer and played several years on the Sunshine Tour. His entrepreneurial vision and passion led him to create a place with a welcoming atmosphere that guests can call their ‘home away from home’.

In 2014, Head over Hills came under new ownership. How Martin ended up with this amazing place is a story in and of itself, and he is happy to share the tale with you when you come for a visit. Swapping life stories and connecting with guests is central to the experience, making every stay at Head over Hills so much more than just a night away.

All the Head over Hills staff have been living in Knysna for most of their lives and they know the beautiful surroundings by heart. Head over Hills is a small establishment. Therefore, all staff have been trained to be ‘all round’ helpful but with a designated area of responsibility.

Smile Foundation

In 2010, the owner’s son was born with a facial anomaly called bilateral cleft lip and cleft palate. Since he was born in Sweden, a comprehensive plan was presented to the family during the first days of his life. Martin & Therese know how much it means to see your child smile, not just on the outside, but from the inside too! As an ambassador for Smile Foundation, Head over Hills has an annual goal is to raise R400.000 towards a ‘Smile Week’ where we, together, can help 45 children smile again. The Santa Shoebox Project

The Santa Shoebox Project started in Cape Town in 2006. The main goal is to collect and distribute gifts at Christmas time for underprivileged children throughout South Africa and Namibia. Each box contains 8 mandatory items; a toothbrush and toothpaste, a soap and sponge, one item of clothing, writing material, some candy and a toy. With the help of our guests, friends and family we are annually donating boxes and so far we have given away hundreds of boxes to kids in our community.

Expedition Africa

Adventure Racing at its best! In May 2016, teams of 4 from all around the world travelled to the Garden route in the Western Cape in South Africa. Their activities included kayaking, mountain biking, trecking, canyoning and complete rope work sections in this epic adventure. Teams took anywhere from 3 days to 7 days to complete this event, traveling day and night pushing themselves to the edge of human endurance. Sedgefield and Knysna, two of the host towns in the Garden Route, was the ideal location for this once in a lifetime adventure. The unparalleled nature of this area, and conservation areas managed by Sanparks were the ultimate playground for these adventurers.

Simola Hillclimb

Head over Hills has been a proud sponsor of the Simola Hillclimb for two consecutive years, a fantastic race in Knysna. In 2016 Head over Hills sponsored the Thouca Mechanicos team.
