Head over Hills is a unique 5 Star luxury retreat in one of the most sought-after locations in South Africa. Head over Hills is a gorgeous and tranquil setting with unsurpassed views of the famous Knysna Heads, cliff tops, vast ocean, and the world-famous Knysna lagoon.
Our boutique retreat boasts eight open planned en-suite bedrooms and various speciality facilities. There is a wheel-chair friendly suite. Our on-site facilities include a heated rim-flow swimming pool, wooden sundeck, fully stocked licensed bar and a walk-in wine cellar. The rates are inclusive of a gourmet breakfast served either in the dining room or on the deck.

Elephant suite
Luxurious is just one way to describe this suite. With a view facing the ocean, a spacious bathroom including a sauna and an exquisite private balcony overlooking the Indian Ocean, there is no better place to unwind and enjoy the surrounding beauty.
Captain’s suite
Enjoy watching the sunset and our stunning ocean view from one of the loungers on your private balcony, or while relaxing in the spa bath with the stacker doors open as the bathroom is incorporated into the bedroom.
Whale suite
Situated on the eastern corner of the house on the upper level, the Whale suite has a panoramic view overlooking the ocean, the Knysna Heads and the Outeniqua mountains. Enjoy these views from the comfort of your deck chairs or sun loungers.
Seahorse suite
This spacious, open planned mini-suite has a beautiful sea/lagoon view, although it is set back from the front of the house. This room in winter is a sun trap and a perfect place to enjoy the view and stay cosy in your room in the afternoons.
Deluxe Rooms
Choose from a selection of four deluxe rooms and enjoy the magnificent views from your private balcony. All deluxe rooms have a safe, air conditioner and high-speed wireless internet. Head Over Hills Deluxe Rooms are a true haven for relaxation and a seaside escape!
Viewpoint room
Situated on the west corner of the house, this room is a little larger than the other standard rooms due to a smaller, open-plan bathroom. Like our Seahorse mini-suite, this room is as warm as toast in winter and with the sliding door open in summer, it is a little piece of heaven.
Pansy Shell room
This standard room is the only room we have that accommodates twin beds. But the bed can be made up as a king bed on request. The balcony with deck chairs and a sun lounger looking straight out to sea, allows for a beautiful sunset or whale and dolphin watching.
Dolphin room
This standard ocean facing room has a king-sized extra length bed, balcony with deck chairs and sun loungers and an en-suite open plan bathroom. A perfect room to literally roll over in bed and watch the ocean, or drink an icy cold sundowner on the balcony.
Oyster room
This deluxe room on the ground floor has a queen size extra length bed and ocean views. The outstanding view features the iconic Knysna Heads and the serene Knysna lagoon.
